Gravity, and what it does to cream

At one sixth of Earth's pull, cream rises six times more leisurely. Connoisseurs describe the result as unhurried; the cows themselves have no opinion, though they do walk in a manner best described as thoughtful.

A fortnight of daylight

The lunar day runs about fourteen Earth days. Our herd grazes through all of it, then sleeps through the fortnight of night that follows. Milking schedules had to be rewritten from scratch, and the first draft was thrown away twice.

These open roughly every twenty-six days, when the orbits line up. Missing one costs a month, so nobody hurries the paperwork.

The milk travels frozen

Three days in transit, most of it at temperatures that make refrigeration redundant. Space is, on average, extremely cold.

Is this real?

No. There are no cows on the Moon, there is no dairy, and nothing on this page can be bought. It exists because somebody wanted it to exist, which is a perfectly good reason for a website.

What do the cows breathe?

This is the question we get most often, and it is a fair one. The answer is that they do not, which is one of several details that keeps this firmly in the realm of fiction.

Can I actually buy one?

No. The button says "buy a cow" because that is funnier than "learn more", but there is no payment page behind it and no money changes hands. We would rather say so plainly than let anyone find out the hard way.

Why Morse code?

Because the owner asked for it, and because radio is genuinely how you would talk to the Moon. The delay is real too: a signal takes about 1.3 seconds each way, so the fastest possible reply is 2.6 seconds after you finish tapping.
